PERSONAL. Mr ami Mrs Cyril Crone have loft Oamaru for Wellington, where Mr Crone has accepted an appointment at the Pctone Woollen Mills. Mr Crone received gifts from fellow employees at the Oamarji Woollen Mills. He has been an enthusiastic player and referee of Rugby football for many years. Miss Betty Forbes, who competed with success at the Empire Games, returned to Oamaru to-day. Mr F. C. Burry has completed 85 years as organist of St. Luke’s Church, Oamaru, On Monday, the Ven. Archdeacon Russell congratulated Mr Burry on having given services for such a long period and also on the celebration of his 75th birthday. WAIAREKA LODGE. Bro. T. R. Allan, N.G., presided over the fortnightly meeting of. Waiareka Lodge No. 51. 1.0.0. F. During the social hour “ Thrills and Spills ” formed the topic of entertaining stories by members. STAFF PICNIC. The staff picnic of the North Otago Farmers’ Co-operative Association Ltd. was held at Maheno and was thoroughly enjoyed. Winners of events were: Miss Isbister and Mr B. B. Walton (deck tennis); Jennifer Nicholas (children’s race); Olwen Moyle (girls’ race); Rex Ball (boy’s race); .Miss M. Isbister (single ladies’ race); Mr C. Martin (single men’s race); Mrs C. M, Nicholas (married ladies’ race); Mr W. Goodall (married men’s race); Miss S. Bruce and Mr P. Moyle (three-legged race). MISSING SEAMAN RETURNS, The commander of H.M.S Wakakura received a message.from Dunedin yesterday, saying that the missing seaman, Cecil Simpson, wished to return. Simpson returned to the ship in the afternoon. When he was first missed it was feared that Simpson had been lost overboard. NEW BOWLING GREEN. 'A fine new bowling green has been constructed by the Awamoa club and has now been sown. It should he ready for play at the beginning of next season. TOWN, CLOCK’S VAGARIES. Erratic behaviour of the striking mechanism of the Oamaru town clock caused surprised looks on faces in Thames street yesterday. It went “on strike ” at all sorts of odd times. HOSPITAL RESERVE LEASE. At an auction sale of the lease of the hospital reserve at Livingstone the purchaser was the present tenant, Mr \V. J. Smith. The price was 4s Id per acre, the upset being 3s. SUNDAY SCHOOL PICNIC, The teachers, scholars and several parents of scholars of the Newborough Sunday School held a delightful picnic at the Oamaru Gardens. Under the direction of Misses, Collingwood, Forrest, Sumpter, Dickenson and Fischer, races were, held and won by the following children; —Under five years: Bob Hefaclry and Max Waby. Five years; Daphne Gribben and Valda Buchan. Six years: Alison Hammil, Doreen Keith and Peggy Austin. Seven years; Judith Austin and Dick Turvey. Eight and'nine years; Nola Keith and Bruce Grimmett. Ten years: lan Keith and Daphne Woodgate. Eleven and 12 years: Shirley Woodward and Jack Burridge. SCHOOL SPORTS, The Glenavy School sports were held on the school grounds in fine weather.
