CIVIL WAR IN SPAIN MAIN VALENCIA ROAD THREATENS Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright TERUEL, February 23. The insurgents pushed on three miles south of the city, threatening the main Valencia road. The Government admits the loss of Castralbo, a village on the Valencia road, and continues to cover up the magnitude of the retreat,' asserting that it was orderly. Teruel presents a scene of fantastic desolation, and is completely uninhabitable. Hundreds of houses have collapsed, blocking the streets. The famous seminary is a chaotic pile of masonry. VALENCIA ATTACKED FROM SEA INSURGENT CRUISER DAMAGED. LONDON, February 23. (Received February 24, at 8 a.m.) The insurgent cruisefs Canarias, BaleareS, and Almirante Cervera, two auxiliaries, and three planes attacked and. extensively damaged Valencia and Sagunto. A Government gunboat replied from Valencia, and planes from Sagunto attacked the Almirante Cervera, shattering her forward funnel. The warships* reported lost their formation, and one was observed under tow. ATTACKS ON BRITISH SHIPPING REBEL REPLY TO BRITISH NOTE UNSATISFACTORY. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, February 23. (Received February 24, at noon.) Questions addressed to the Foreign Secretary were answered in the House of Commons by Mr Chamberlain, who stated that a communication had now been received from the Salamanca authorities in reply to the British Note of protest against attacks on British shipping. The terms of the communication could not be regarded as satisfactory by the British Government and +he reply to be returned to that communication was at present under consideration. •
