Investment Market To-day

BRIGHTER UNDERTONE RALLY IN TRANSTASMAN ISSUES WOOLWORTHS LTD. MARKED UP AGAIN (A 1 firmer undertone replaced yesterday’s easier trend in the investment market, and transtasman issues were marked up with some healthy advances recorded. Sellers quoted for four issues, but in only one instance did they attract a response. National Insurances hardened on yesterday’s business, and finished between 17s and 17s 3d. Commonwealth industrial leaders showed gains. Predominant among them was a further rise in Woqlworths Ltd., which, after reported business at £1 6s lid, had buyers Id away. Buyers of G. J. Coles climbed to the £4 mark, but vendors displayed no interest. B.H.P.’s closed brighter, the comparatively wide margin of 9d separating buyers (£3 Is 3d) from holders. Associated News (pref.) gamed bd to an inquiry at £1 5s, _ but Felt and Textiles revealed a slight easing. New Zealand issues were quiet. Dominion Fertilisers reached the sales hst with reported business at £1 3s 6d, while Taranaki Oils tended to decline, transactions in the room showing a Id drop. An improvement in the base-metal market was reflected in Australian mining stocks. Barrier companies revived from the weaker trend occasioned by North Broken Hill’s decreased dividend. Souths were marked up Is 3d, Norths Is, while Electrolytic Zincs shared in the advance, the ords. changing hands at £2 6s 6d. Mount Lyells sold at £1 10s 7d, a 6d rise.
