■ CARROLL AGAIN BEATS LETO ■ i \ _____ MELBOURNE, February 22. 'At the Exhibition building 12,000 witnessed a stirring fight between Jack Carroll and the American, Jimmy Leto, in a 12-round contest, Carroll, for the third time, gaining a points verdict. Yeto mad© it a very close contest, and brought blood from Carroll’s nose and eye. The concluding round was a thrilling one, when Leto had Carroll in a lot of trouble. MONDAY NIGHT'S CONTEST The Dunedin Boxing Association has arranged two professional bouts and two promising amateur rounds for next Monday night. The chief contest of the evening is to be between Stan Jenkin, of Oamaru, the present professional welter-weight champion of New Zealand, and holder of the ‘ Truth ’ Belt, and “Tiger” Eddington. Jenkin defeated Don Stirling for his title early in the present season, and “ Tiger ” Eddington recently defeated Clarri© Rayner. Dick Baker, of Invercargill, has had an extended trip to Australia, but in spite of many attractive offers he has decided to return to his own country to make his professional debut. Frank La Hood, his opponent, is recognised as a forceful, hard-hitting welter-weight, who won a large percentage of his amateur fights by knock-outs. The association has secured the services of Mr Harold Baker, of Australia, as referee.
