HANDICAPS DECLARED ■ ' ■ The annual gathering and sports of the Caledonian Society of Otago will take place at the Caledonian Grounds on Saturday, commencing with the primary schools’ events at 10.30 a.m. Secondary school events will be commenced at 11.30, and it is expected that these will be concluded an hour later. A _ full programme of Highland bagpipe music and Highland national dancing will be carried on between the wrestling, cycling, amateur athletic and field events. The feature of the day will be the business interhouse competitions. There are two sections* this year—one for women and one for men. In addition to the march past, which will take place at 2 o’clock, there will be numerous athletic events. The Hope Challenge Cup will be awarded to the team gaining most points for inspection, marching display, discipline, and command.- The Mayor (the Rev. E. T. Cox) and Mrs R. S. Black will be the judges. In the men’s section the Carlton Challenge Cup will be given to the team gaining most points in the various events. Displays will be given by the Dunedin Highland and McGlashan College Pipe Bands and by the Young Men s Christian* Association. Several running events under the jurisdiction of the Otago Centre or the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association will be included in the programme.
