THE DOMINION CONTEST .(Per United Press Association). PALMERSTON N., Feb. 22. Solo competitions at the Dominion band contest were held to-day. Results:— BOYS’ SOLO R. Schou (Dannevirke), 95 points .. 2 I. Lees (St. Kilda), 93 points .. 3 BASS DRUM SOLO R. Brown (Port Nicholson), 96 points 1 A. Kilmartin (Auckland Artillery), 94 points 2 C. H. Frew (Ashburton). 93. points 3 B GRADE TEST Ten B Grade bands competed in the first test selection to-night. The placings were:—lnstitute Silver, Wellington; Dannevirke Municipal; Christchurch Municipal; Ashburton Silver, Wellington Artillery; Hawera Municipal; Feilding Municipal; Te Awamutu Municipal; Palmerston North City Silver; Hastings Citizens. The points scored were not disclosed pending the second test selection tomorrow night. The judge (Mr E. P. Kerry) said that there had been some very good playing, and only a very small margin separated the first four bands. It would be quite easy, he said, for the positions to be reversed in the second test piece.
