RECEPTION FOR PROFESSOR STRONG

CANTERBURY WOMEN’S CLUB ENTERTAINS

Professor Ann Strong, 0.8. E., and Dr Elizabeth Gregory, who have been on a lecture tour of the North and South Islands, telling of the work being done by the School lor Home Science at Dunedin, have enlisted the support of both men and women for the hostel which the Home Science Department of the Otago University proposes to build at Studholme House, Dunedin. On Saturday evening they were entertained by members of the Canterbury Women’s Club at a most enjoyable evening reception. The club rooms had been effectively decorated for the occasion, tiger lilies and hydrangeas being massed on the stage, and a low green bowl, on a central table, contained shaded pink dahlias. Mrs R. J. M'Laren, president of the club, who was wearing a trained frock of wallflower velvet, with a corsage spray of pink roses, received Professor Strong and Dr Gregory, who were accompanied by Mrs John Studholme, Miss L. Bowen, Miss B. Loy, and Miss M. Moore. During the evening Miss Bessie Pollard played several pianoforte solos, and Misses Millicent Jennings and Grace Torkington sang solos and duets, some unaccompanied items being particularly appreciated. Supper was served in the circle room.
