ST. CLAIR CARNIVAL

OPENING NIGHT Everything is in readiness for the opening to-night of the annual carnival of the St. Clair Improvement Association, a body which raises funds for the improvement of the beach and its surroundings. This is a matter which concerns the whole of the citizens of Dunedin, and no doubt there will be a very large attendance. Various attractions have been provided, including games and other amusements, as well as stalls for the sale of ice creams, sweets, and supper. For the youngsters the merry mix-up and the big Ferris wheel should offer thrills. The opening ceremony will take place at 7.45. Under the blaze of electric lights and brilliant floodlights a procession will parade along the esplanade, representing a * march of youth,” those taking part being five teams of girls of house sports teams, members of three life _ saving clubs, members of the St. Clair School Boys Life Saving Club, and gymnasts from the Y.M.C.A. The procession will be headed by the Regimental Band Mr •T W. Munro, M.P., will officially declare the carnival open, and there will later be a display by the Y.M.C.A. gymnasts. A ” Miss St. Clair _ competition will be held in conjunction with the carnival, and each carnival badge purchased will entitle the holder to a vote.
