BRITISH INDUSTRIES FAIR
QUEEN'S VISIT TO EMPIRE SECTION
TRIUMPH FOR MR JORDAH Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, February 21. (Received February 22, at 10.30 a.m.) The opening day of the Empire section of the British Industries Fair was a triumph for Mr Jordan, who was the only High Commissioner to get Queen Elizabeth inside his stall. When the Queen arrived she was followed by an immense crowd. She was met by Mr Bruce, Mr Jordan, and representatives of the other dominions. After inspecting the first stall she went on to the Australian stall, chatting brightly with Mr Bruce. Almost immediately Mr Jordan stepped forward and, to the obvious surprise of the Queen’s personal attendants, he persuaded her to enter the New Zealand stand, where they talked for some time, the Queen remarking on the loveliness of the New Zealand countryside and the excellence of the Dominion’s products, especially butter and honey. The Queen snowed a particular interest in the display of New Zealand rugs. Mr Jordan asked her whether she had brought back a rug from her visit to New Zealand, He then suggested that she should accept one. The Queen replied; “ Yes, they are lovely things. 1 am sure my daughters would like one very much. ” The crowd surrounded the stands 10 deep. The exhibits were quite up to the standard of previous years.
