BOMBING IN SPAIN

(Received 1 February 15, at 11.30 a.m.) Asked in the House of Commons whether he would give notice to the parties in Spain that Britain proposed to allow the importation into Spain of antiaircraft guns and ammunition unless bombing behind the lines ceased, Mr Eden said Britain was bound by the international undertaking assumed _as signatory to the Non-intervention Agreement. He w r as not prepared at present to propose any modification of that agreement. ; Mr Eden told the House in another reply that the Government had not approached the Vatican direct regarding denunciation by the Pope of bombing of civilians in Spain by both sides, but it had informed France that _it was prepared to associate itself with such initiative as Franco might decide to take in the matter, whether through the Vatican or other channels.
