heavy toll over week-end CHILD LOSES HIS LIFE. The second drowning at the same spot Within little more than two months occurred in Whau Greet, Avondale (Auckland) on Saturday afternoon, when a boy 15 years .of age, the same, age as the previous victim, lost his hie. The victim was George Nancarrow, ot New Lynn. ' The deceased had learned to swim during the Christmas holidays, and had swum across the creek and was hairway back when he cried for help and disappeared. The body was recovered. BOAT UPSET IN RIVER. Capsizing in a small flat-bottomed ■boat while crossing the Waikato River toward the Mercer wharf on Saturday evening, a -youn& man, who was unable to swim, disappeared and was drowned. His body was recovered later. The victim was Robert Leonard -fctarley, a married man, aged 25 years. Although Harley was born at Wyndham, the Otago police have not traced his relatives, who are believed to live in Dunedin or Invercargill. , drowned while bathing. Henry Hooper, aged 38 years, a married man with three children, who was employed on the post and telegraph office staff, Christchurch, and was visiting the West Coast on holiday, was, drowned while bathing at Mokihinui, near Westport, yesterday afternoon. COLLAPSE AT RECEPTION. Dennis Cullen, of Dunedin, a guest at a wedding part at Tokomaru Bay on Saturday, collapsed while giving a song at the reception after the ceremony. Re died in a few minutes, apparently from heart failure. FATAL INJURIES. The death occurred in the New Plymouth hospital on Saturday of Clara Louisa Egger, aged 63 j ears, a' married woman, of Waituna West, as the result of injuries received when a car in which she was a passenger collided with another at the intersection of two country roads near Palmerston North, PINNED UNDER LORRY. An old age pensioner named Thomas Cudlip was killed on Saturday afternoon when a motor lorry in which he was a passenger crashed into the approach 'of the Tauherenikau bridge near Featherston and then rolled down the hank The victim was thrown out and pinned under the lorry, which was driven, by W. IR. Thompson, of FeatherA man named Reuben Fluety, who was sitting on the back of the lorry, received. injuries which necessitated his removal to the Greytown Hospital, the driver of the lorry and another man in the cab with him escaped injury. FATAL PLUNGE FROM ROAD. - , William fienry Dalli Son, proprietor of Pacific House, m the Marine Parade, Napier, lost his life on Saturday afternoon when the car he driyrng left the road and rolled over a 20ft bank on road, eight miles from IDallison’s wife” and two daughters and a male boarder were also m the car Mrs Dallison suffered badly irom shock, and her daughters received -minor cuts and abrasions. It is understood that the car was travelling up an incline, and at a narrow portion of the ■road Dallison pulled the car slightly over to the right to avoid deep ruts. The car left the road, and rolled down a hank into a pine plantation, pinning Dallison underneath. After attention the other occupants of the car were able to proceed home. ONE DEAD, TWO INJURED^ !A pedestrian was killed and two motor cyclists were injured when a motor cycle carrying a pillion passenger collided with a pedestrian on the Esplanade at Petone on Saturday afternoon. . , The pedestrian, C. Bums, a retired man, of 42 Fitzherhert street, _ Lower Hutt, received severe head injuries and a broken leg, and died in hospital three hours later. , R. Bennett, of 16 Petone avenue, who ■was in charge of the motor cycle, received head injuries and shock, and. V. White, of 109 Nelson street, Petone, a pillion passenger, suffered a cut on the forehead. All three were taken to hospital by the free ambulance. SUCCUMBED TO INJURIES. Joseph Patterson,- a labourer, married, with four children, died to-day from injuries received in a collision with a car while cycling on February 4, .reports an Association message from Oamaru. INJURED IN COLLISION. A . collision at Oamaru yesterday afternoon between a motor cyclist and a car resulted in head injuries to the motor cyclist,- Athol Robertson, pm. His condition is -. not serious.—Press Association. ACCIDENT ON THE KILMOG. When a front tyre came off a motor car which was negotiating a corner on the Kihnog Hill yesterday afternoon the car overturned, injuring two of the passengers. Graham Fleming, a young > man living at Kaitangata, suffered a lacerated hand and head injuries, and Helen Knox, a young woman living at 142 Ddndas street, suffered shock and concussion. They were admitted to the ‘ Hospital at 5.45 p.m. The driver of the car was uninjured. SEVERED TENDONS. While cutting grass with a sickle on Saturday afternoon, John Cunnirighain, a young married man residing at Portobello, severed several tendons in his right hand. He was admitted to the Hospital at 7 p.m. FRACTURED LEG. 'A fracture of the right leg was suffered by Jane Hart, aft elderly woman, when she fell in a concrete yard at her home in Forfar street, Mosgiel, on Saturday. She . was admitted to the Hospital at 4.30 p.m, FALL FROM HORIZONTAL BAR. Falling from the horizontal bar in the children’s playground at Mornington last evening, Desmond Porter, a boy living at 40 Crosby street, fractured both his wrists. He was admitted to the Hospital at 7.30 p.m. CYCLIST INJURED. As a result of a fall from a bicycle at Look-out Point yesterday, Robert Stewart, a young man living at 70 Dundas street, suffered a fractured collarbone, and was admitted to the Hospital at 7.20 p.m. STRUCK BY WINCH HANDLE. Struck in the face by a winch handle which had slipped, Augustus Smolensky, who resides at Kaikorai Valley, was admitted to the Hospital atll a.m. today suffering from facial injuries. The injured man is employed by the tramways department, and the accident occurred in, the, co,ur§s of his work.
