RELATIONS WITH ITALY
BRITAIN'S FOREIGN POLICY ■ ■ t DIFFERENCES IN CABINET U • Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, February 12. Differences are reported to have occurred in the Cabinet over the Government’s Italian policy. The ‘ Daily Alail ’ says that the majority of the Ministers, including the Prime Alinister (Mr Neville Chamberlain), are anxious to expedite diplomatic negoiations with Italy, but the minority, including the Foreign Secretary (Air Anthony Eden), are opposing this. Air Chamberlain’s now diplomatic drive, says the ‘ Daily Mail,’ is to get Herr Hitler and Signor Mussolini to join in a new four-Power pact with Britain and France to guarantee peace in Europe. t - —■ FOREIGN SECRETARY SAID TO BE RESIGNING DENIED BY ‘SUNDAY TIMES.’LONDON, February 13. (Received February 14, at 11 a.m.) The Italian Press gives prominence to reports that Mr Eden is resigning, declaring that he opposes Mr Chamberlain’s desire for an immediate understanding between England and Italy. However, the ‘ Sunday Times ’ categorically states, on the highest au.thority, that there is not a word of truth in stories of acute differences between Mr Chamberlain and Mr Eden. On ,the contrary, they are in complete agreement. The reports that Mr Eden and Air Chamberlain are in serious disagreement are given prominence in several Sunday newspapers. They appear to have originated in Berlin, where the Bourse yesterday roso sharply on a widespread report that Mr Eden had already resigned. Germany and Italy have long been conducting a campaign through sympathisers in Britain to discredit Mr Eden, whom they regard as the chief obstacle in the way of gaining their ends.
