An Association telegram from Auckland says that passengers by the Rangitiki from London to-day included Sir James Gunson, of Auckland! Sir James said the house building in England was tremendous, and that the road works were a striking feature of Britain’s industrial life. He remarked that the spending power last Christmas was greater than ever before, and all records were broken.
The Railway Department is running a popular day excursion from Dunedin to Timaru on Sunday, February 20. Particulars of the trains and the special cheap fares are advertised in this issue. Seats may be reserved for both journeys for Is. The Railway Department advertises in this issue that another special train at cheap excursion fares will be run from Invercargill, stopping at Balclutha, Stirling, and Milton, on Sunday, February 20, returning the same day.
