CARPENTER ACQUITTED
NEGLIGENT DRIVING CHARGE [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, February 11. A plea of not guilty was entered by Edward Lyall Young, a carpenter, aged 30 years, who was charged with negligent driving and causing actual bodily harm, and alternatively, with failing to stop after an accident. After a short retirement the jury returned a verdict of not guilty. The Crown Prosecutor, Mr W. H. Cunningham, conducted the prosecution, and Mr J. A. Scott appeared for the accused. The Crown’s case was that on the night of November 7 Roy Joseph Wynne, a photo engraver, was riding a motor cycle along Cambridge Terrace in the direction of Courtenay Place, and was about to overtake a .car driven by Henry Hayvice, a tailor, when another car, allegedly driven by the accused, overtook the motor cycle and struck it in passing. The defence was a complete denial of negligence. The accused in evidence said he was driving at a moderate speed, and neither felt nor heard a hump, and was quite unaware an accident had occurred.
