BRIGHT MODERN VAUDEVILLE
M'KAY'S ‘GAIETIES' COMPANY -Modern vaudeville is being presented by Stanley M‘Kay’s “ Gaieties ” Company- at His Majesty’s Theatre this week. ‘ A Fantasy in- Gold ’ is the first production, which is notable for its diversity,, brightness, and speed. There is ’ spectacle, dancing,, music, and the additional, attraction of clever, wholesome comedy. From the first curtain to the last the show is lively entertainment. One cannot help but he amused by Mr Joe -Lawman, whose personality has won him immediate popularity. He bears .the brunt-. of .the work of the evening with exceptional skill. Clever sketches of a humorous, typically vaudeville variety complete the lighter side of the evening, Messrs George Cofelli, Cliff O’Keefe, and slton Black, and Misses Wyn Edgerton and Alice Bennetto providing admirable assistance for the principal comedian. Specialty acts are prominent—balancing, conjuring, and many more. The most popular last evening with the large audience was that entitled ,the ‘ Hilo Duo,’ featuring Miss Wehi Greig and Mr George Greig, saxophone and piano accordion duettists. Sleight of hand tricks were skilfully performed by Mr Dave James, while the Fredo Freres, acrobatic violinists, indulged in extraordinary balancing feats ■ while playing. Originality was the keynote of the dancing items, which featured Miss Heather Wright and Les. Diamondos in eccentric and acrobatic and classical turns respectively. Miss Elvy Ferguson (violinist) and Mr Leo Trenette (tenor) also contributed to the programme, while the ballet was seen to advantage. Music was supplied by a capable orchestra under the baton of Miss May Brooke.
