GOVERNMENT POWER STATIONS EXTENSIONS AT ARAPUNI (Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, February 2. Considerable increases arc still being shown in tho demand for electric power from Government generating stations operated by the hydro-electric branch of the Public Works Department, said the Minister of Public Works (the Hon. R. Semple) in an interview to-day, in which he outlined the recent developments in the generating and reticulating system. He pointed out that for the first threequarters of the year the increase in units generated amounted to 16 per cent, in the North Island and 23 per cent, in tho South Island. “ To meet the power demand in the North Island,” Mr Semnlc said, “ the department within the last few days has completed successful trials on the second of the new 21,000-kilowatts units which have recently been installed in the extended Arapuni power station, which now has an installed capacity of 102,000 kilowatts.”
