Misses Shona Duncan and Margaret Bartholomew have returned 1 from a tour of the North Island. Dean P. B. Haggitt and Mrs Haggitt, of Nelson, who have been visiting relatives in Dunedin and Christchurch, have returned home. Miss Dorothy M‘lsaac, of Invercargill, is spending her holidays with her parents, Mr and Mrs N. R. M'lsaac, of York Place. Dr J. Hight, of Christchurch, accompanied by Miss Doreen Hight and Miss Anne Morrell, are spending a holiday in Queenstown. Mrs D. Heenan and Miss Heenan, Ashburton, who have been the guests of Mrs G. D. Wakelin, Rattray street, returned north on Friday. Dr- Elizabeth Bryson, of Wellington, accompanied by Miss J. G. Coe-Smith, is spending a holiday at Chateau Tougariro, motoring from Wellington via Wanganui.

Mrs B. B. Couston and Miss Eleanor Couston, of Christchurch, left to-day to spend a month’s holiday at Timaru and the Franz Josef Glacier.

Mrs Cecil Tait has left for Wellington to meet her mother, Mrs Robert Young, who is returning to New Zealand from a visit to England.

Miss Roma Reilly, Dip; Ed., will leave on Tuesday for Suva, where, she will take up a position with the Education Board.

Airs M. E. Parkcs (Auckland) is returning to New Zealand by the Akaroa, which left London on December 28. She has been in England for the greater part of the present year.

Colonel and Mrs Keith Stewart, of Christchurch, who wore the guests of Airs J. Dickison, Anderson’s Bay, during the week, have left for a 10 days’ motoring trip to the Eglinton Valley. Dr and Airs Noel North and baby are returning to New Zealand by the Imperial Star, reaching Auckland on .’January 27, and coming on to Port Chalmers.

Air and Airs W. F. Alexander and Ali.ss Frances Alexander are on a motoring tour, including visits to Alount Cook and the Southern Lakes.

Aliss Lila Boddam, London, who is on a six months’ world tour, is spending two or three weeks in Dunedin as the guest of her aunt, Airs John Hamer, Alva street.

The Rev. Albert Atason and Airs Alason, of Alelancsia, who are at present on furlough, are touring in the North Island, and will he in Dunedin at the beginning of February. They will leave for England on February 28.

Alesdames Stone and Glennie, Wolliugton, and Ainger and Barnsdale, Christchurch, who, with their husbands, have been staying at AA 7 ai_n’s Motel during the Dominion howling tournament, returned north on Friday.

Aliss M. Emerson, of Auckland, who has been the guest of Mrs Hamilton, Alva street, left to-day for Alexandra, where she will be the guest of Mrs C. E. Richards.

Miss Iris AVilkinson (Robin Hyde), the well-known New Zealand poet and novelist, was duo to leave by the Awatea for Sydney from Auckland. Aliss AVilkinson is heading for London via Japan and Siberia, and plans to he away a year at least.

Airs Albert Geddes left on Wednesday to join the AVanganella in AVelling,ton, ep route to Sydney, where she will attend the Empire Games. Her young-

est son, Air A. R. Geddes, is one of the competitors. Airs Geddes will conclude her Australian visit in Melbourne.

Dame Maria Ogilvie Gordon, who has travelled out from England to attend the international conference of women to be held in Sydney during the hundred and fiftieth anniversary celebrations, has advised Dominion officers of the New Zealand National Council of Women that she will be unable to accept their invitation to visit New Zealand after the conference, owing to pressure of work for international relations.

Alisses Stella, Olga, and Joan Fitchett, Marjory Alumford, ley Carter, Audrey Aleek, Audrey Baker, Alary Buchanan, Alarjorie Alacdonald, Ada Fache, Hogg (Christchurch), and Ellison (Auckland) returned on AA 7ednesday after a most enjoyable walk over the Alilford Sound track. Alisses Diana Fitchett and Hilary Runnerstrum, who accompanied them to Alilford, returned via the Graham Talbot route.

Airs Stuart Adcy, of Alelbourne, was hostess at a sherry party at the homo of her mother, Mrs Bridger Johnstone, Albert street, on Thursday. The guests included:— Alesdames Ivon Phipps (London), Neil Fisse, K. Bridger Johnstone, Cyril Fastior, C. Wren, and the Alisses Alolly AULachlan and Zeitha Johnstone. Several other hostesses have given parties for Aliss A\ 7 ood and Aliss Simpson during the past week. They leave on January 31 for Sydney.

On Tuesday evening, in the Strand Salon, the Australian Society of Otago entertained the Australian Trade Commissioner, Mr C. _ B. Critchley, Airs Critchley, and their son, Air J. Critchiey, and also the Assistant Trade Commissioner, Air J. Payne, who is shortly leaving to take up a position at Cairo.

Other visitors from Australia were Mr and Mrs and Miss Thornton, Miss Edith Harrison, Miss Coult. and Mr Marshall. Mr A. A. Paape, president of the society, extended a welcome to the visitors, Mr Critchley and _Mr Payne suitably replying. Mrs Critchley was presented with a beautiful bouquet of red roses by Miss Ngaire Glue, and Mr H. M'Kay, on behalf of the men members, presented Mrs H.- A. Newall with, a charming bouquet of pink carnations to wish her bon voyage and a pleasant holiday in Australia. The evening was spent in playing “ trump whist,” interspersed with musical items, Miss Edith Harrison rendering a pianoforte solo, Miss Ngaire Glue a recitation, and Miss Gaynor Paape a song, all the items being much appreciated. The evening was brought to a happy conclusion by the singing of ‘ Auld Lang Syne. 1
