REPUBLICAN OPINION DF BLOCKADE EFFECTIVENESS DENIED Press Association— By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, December 28. (Received December 29, at 2 p.m.) The Spanish Republican Defence Minister, in a statement issued through the London Embassy, denies that the rebel blockade is effective. The danger from mines only exists in the imagination, he says. Sometimes the rebels, under cover of darkness, might lay a few mines, but the Republican minesweepers immediately sweep them up. REPORTED AS SUNK GOVERNMENT TORPEDO BOAT. LONDON, December 28. (Received December 29, at 10.30 a.m.) An unconfirmed report from Burgos says the Government torpedo boat Mendez Nunez was sunk by a mine in the Mediterranean.
