PIGEON FLYING

Tho Dunedin. Homing Pigeon Club members again competed in twq_ club races, a long distance one from Napier and, a two-bird average event from Ashburton. Thirty-seven birds in the Napier race were liberated by the secretary of the Napier Club at 5 o’clock in ideal weather. Tho winner of the Napier race put up an excellent performance homing in 12br 52min, being lOmin ahead of the second and third birds, this pair being 30min ahead of the next birds which followed very closely. The first eight placed birds are (velocities in yards per minute): J. Still’s Maharajah (1,251.0) 1; D. Cunningham’s Nomad (1,235.5) 2; D. Cunningham’s Danny Boy (1,229.5) 3; J. Scoullar’s Red Ray (1,188.2) 4; J. Scoullar’s Lone Pine (1,187.7) 5; D. Cunningham’s Romeo (1,187.7) 5; H. Millard’s Silver Note (1.187.5) 7; A. Goodman’s Alma (1,187.4) 8. In tho Ashburton two-bird average race the winning pair’s time is 3hr 29rain, and the places arc filled as follows: W. Hargreaves’s Jorack and Jarack (1,248.0) 1: A. Goodman’s Rey Spec and Bonny Glen (1.246.7) 2; J. Scoullar’s Puzzle and Red Flyer (1,242.9) 3; J. Still’s Silver Lass and Forenfancy (1,240.9) 4 ; 0. Watson’s Kinlock and Tullock (1,233.9) 5. The three best times in the New Zealand Homing Federation race for the Patterson Cup are held by C. Watson’s Scot, M. Anderson’s Young Hillman, H. Millard's Full Note.
