MODEL ENGINEERING
SOCIETY'S ANHUAL EVENING The annual smoke concert of the Otago Model Engineering Society was held on Saturday evening. The large and enthusiastic gathering included representatives from Ashburton and Oamaru. Several working models constructed by club members were on view, and these included petrol driven aeroplanes and speed boats and a magnificent working model of a traction engine which had taken seven years to build and was the work of one of the Oamaru contingent. In his opening remarks the chairman (Mr W. J, White) commented on the marked activity in building flying and water models which club members had displayed during the club’s 18 months of existence. He hoped that this enthusiasm would spread to other departments ox model engineering. It was to be hoped that the society could arrange to hold a “ field day ” early next year. During the evening musical items were presented by Mr T. Scott (piano solo) and Mr H, Partridge (violin solo). The following toasts were honoured during the course of the evening:—“ The King,’’ the chairman; “The Club," Mr H. Ninnis and Mr L. Boyce; “The Visitors,” Mr J. Welsh and Mr H. Pemberton; “Steam Power*” Mr W. Angus and
Mr H. Ninnis; “ Gas Power,” Mr H. Turner and Mr A. T. Scott. On behalf of the society Mr Grady presented Mr H. Ninnis with a small token of appreciation, .Mr Ninnis suitably replying.
