A Gay Tea Towel You could not make a more useful gift tor your 'mother than the smart tea towel illustrated, you will need 3 yard of plain linen tea towelling, 1 yard of the fadeless linen or head cloth, and some threads of yellow stranded cotton with which to embroider the monogram. TO begin with, cut the blue linen lengthwise into two strips. You should remember to buy the blue linen a few inches longer than the width of the tea towelling, as the small piece left over is used for the monogram. Machine the blue linen strip to the end of the tea towel first on the wrong side, and also upside down, leaving i Inch on either side of the towel; then turn back up on to right side and tack Into place. Machine the band to the tea towel! using blue cotton on the top of machine

and white underneath, being sure the machine stitching won’t be on your blue band, but just about i inch above It Then turn in the i inch neatly at either end and slip-stitch or topsew along with blue cotton. Machine blue band to other end of tea towel in a similar manner. To make the monogram use a block letter, as It la much simpler for this kind of work. Tack a square piece of linen Into position, as shown In the Illustration, an Inch or two above the band. Turn In about I inch all round, and buttonhole with yellow embroidery cotton. Draw the initial on In double lines about f inch apart, and with a pair of Jiarp scissors cut out tbs letter between the double lines. Turn in a very neat edge. tack, then embroider In yellow cotton. After giving your work a final press you win be delighted with the re^ilt.
