TAIERI COUNTY COUNCIL

MONTHLY MEETING Mr J. Gow (chairman) presided over the monthly meeting of the Taieri County Council. REPORTS. Mr J ohn Garrett, inspector of works, gave details of the surfacing work of the past month.—The report was adopted. Mr John Williamson, traffic, building, and sanitary inspector, reported on the number of licenses and building permits granted during the month.—Received. The Finance Commitee reported that the receipts for the past month had been £5,263 2s, loan moneys £4.750, and the expenditure £4,492 6s.— Adopted. 1 CORRESPONDENCE. Revenue vouchers were received as under : —Highway refund,. £4,580 12s 7d; goldfield revenue, 10s: sanitary fees, £4 8s 9d. Messrs N. and E. S. Paterson, surveyors, applied for exemption for road through block 11., Dunedin and East Taieri.—Granted. ' The Town Clerk, Dunedin, forwarded plans for deviation work at Boyd’s Hill, Taioma road.—Approved, and tenders to be called for the work. A petition was read from the Gladstone road settlers re sealing Gladstone road to stop the dust nuisance.—A reply to be sent that the proposal would be given due consideration in next year’s allocations. The Ocean View Improvement Society wrote about gorse on roadside, Ocean View.—A reply to be sent that the responsible person was the owner of the adjoining sections. The County Solicitors forwarded a letter about road_ exemption at Milner’s Pit, North Taieri.—The necessary resolution was passed. The New Zealand Railways wrote about a water supply for Middlemarch. -—lt was agreed to accept the engineer’s offer to meet the council and discuss the position. TENDERS. The tender of Disabled Soldiers’ Products was accepted for a supply of dog collars. GENERAL. The Chairman reported on the arrangements made with Mr D. Roberts on the ground about Glass’s Gully deviation.—These were approved, and it was decided to call tenders for the work. A deputation from the Taieri Pipe Band and Motor Cycle Section of the Automobile Association of Otago waited on the council about a motor road race. —lt was decided to consider the application if the deputation would obtain from the users of the road a written agreement to the closing of same during the race. Some work at Riselaw road was advocated by those interested, hut the council refused to approve of the plan unless satisfactory provision was made for water supply and drainage.
