REVOLT IN KURDISTAN

ONLY NOW DISCLOSED LEADER AND ASSOCIATES EXECUTED Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright INSTANBUL, November 15. (Received November 16, at 1.5 p.m.) A revolt in the Dersim district of Kurdistan in April, in which 5,000 tribesmen were involved, was disclosed with the death sentence, followed _ by hanging, of the leader, Seyid lliza, and 10 associates. Four others were sentenced to 30 years’ imprisonment, with hard labour. Heavy penalties were imposed on 43 others. The tribes had only recently come trader Kernel Ataturk’s modernising ideas, and resented the new administrative division’s new methods of collecting taxes. They preferred the old method of bargaining with the chiefs, and objected to the presence of gendarmes and soldiers. The Government was obliged to use a force of 30,000 to suppress the rising. They employed bomber planes. Riza’s house was hit by the famous young Turkish airwoman Sabiha Goekchen.
