(Received November 15, at 8 a.m.) Unwin was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment. Mr Justice Ivea warned the accused that he hadbetter take a personal stocktaking. His constituents were paying for the best public service, and had been betrayed. [A previous message stated:—-Leaf-lets entitled ‘Bankers’ Toadies, bearing the name of nine prominent uovernment opponents, are in the possession of the Edmonton police following a search warrant raid on the offices of the Social Credit League. The names are followed by the words: “ Exterminate them.” The raid was the result of a complaint to the magistrate that tho leaflets were libellous. Later Joseph (Unwin, Government Whip m the Legislature, was arrested in connection with the seized - e bankers* toadies - leaflets. The charge was laid by Senator Gnesbach. Unwin denied writing the tt Bankers’ Toadies ’ pamphlet, and said got it from Powell. The printers •mere paid from Government funds. Unwin was found guilty of publishing defamatory libel through the Bank©rs* Toadies ; * social credit pamphlet. The jury recommended leniency. The charge of counselling murder was dropped. Application for indictment of Powell on the same charges is pending.]
