BROADCAST STAFFS
METHOD OF APPOINTMENT IV PUBLIC SERVICE GOMHISSIONERS An explantaion of the method of appointment of the staffs of tho commercial broadcasting stations was given to the ‘ Evening Star ’ to-day by the Hon. F. Jones (Postmaster-General) _ when his attention was drawn to criticism that none of the positions (exceeding 50) at the local studio, had been advertised. “ Tho staffs were appointed by the Public Service Commissioners,” replied the Minister, who had charge of tho Broadcasting Bill passed recently by the House. “ The only request I made to the controller was that those men —announcers and technicians —who had been displaced when the Government purchased the B stations should be con. sidered for appointment to the commercial broadcasting service, provided they had the qualifications. I understand that that has been done, to some extent.”
AH applications for positions were made to the Public Service Commissioners, who selected the staffs. Applications by the hundred were received, which was proof that all who were anxious to enter the service were aware of the conditions under which the appointments were to be made. AH employees were working under tihe Public Service Act and under the control of .the commissioners, and most were classified as temporary employees.
