JOHN WILKES WINS WILLIAMSTOWN CUP MELBOURNE, November 14. An ugly demonstration was made by the crowd when St. Fox came back to the enclosure after running last in the hurdle race at Williamstown on Saturday, resulting in the stewards opening an inquiry and adjourning it until Monday. •Principal results:— WILLIAMSTOWN OUP, £2,500. l}m. Old Rowley hotly challenged John Wilkes in the run home, but the. latter triumphed by one length and three-quar-ters, with Dictator one length and a half away third, and Nightguard fourth. Racing circles were surprised by th® 12 months’ disqualification of the West* ern Australia leading trainer, J. J. Kelly, and leading ■ jockey, W. Dillon, owing to the unsatisfactory running or the gelding Hybla in the Belmont Stakes at the Belmont races on Saturday. Kelly trains for Mr Ernest Lee Steere, the owner of the gelding, who is chairman of the Western Australian Turf Club. The stewards announced that Mr Lee Steere was in n® way implicated in the inquiry.
