Tbo country official visit organiser, P.G. Bro. Allan Cameron, has arrangements well in hand for the visit to Loyal Upper Clutha Lodge, Pembroke. It is anticipated that the full complement of district officers will make the trip, accompanied by at least one representative of each city lodge. It is hoped also that lodges in Central Otago will co-operate, and a good meeting ensue. Pembroke brethren are looking forward eagerly to meeting their brother Oddfellows from other parts of the Otago district, who are assured of a warm welcome and a bright gathering on November 20. At the outset of the meeting of Loyal Hand and Heart feeling reference was made to the death of Bro. T. G. Crook, and an expression of sympathy with the late brother’s relatives -was carried by members standing in silence. Mourning regalia having been removed, two new members were initiated with the usual formalities. It was resolved that the first degree be conferred in open lodge at tho next meeting. Considerable discussion ensued over the proposal to establish a Social Committee in the lodge. It was forcibly brought home to members that if tho lodge was to maintain its status in the society, much more attention must be given to'-the social side of its activities, the result being the election of a Social Committee comprising the N.G., P.G.s Bros. Hope, Masters, Williams, Armstrong, Willis, and Philips. It was resolved that the P.G.s’ evening, set down for November 30, take the usual form, the chairs to bo occupied by Past Grands. It is hoped to make this event a memorable one, a special invitation to be extended to elderly members. An adjournment was taken and P.G. Bro. H. Masters gave an interesting address on the compilation of a balance sheet. Representatives of Loyal Albion, Caversham, Hand and Heart, and Valley Lodges were present at the meeting of Loyal Centenary on Monday evening. N.G. Bro. Scott presided, and expressed to the representatives of Loyal Caversham the lodge’s desire to accept an official visit at its nest meeting, on November 22. Business having been transacted, four of tho younger members engaged a like number of Loyal Albion’s youngest members in debate. The subject, ‘ Should ‘Flying Boats be Used on the Pacific Route,’ was thoroughly explored. Each contestant fluently espoused his cause, the delivery in the main being well above the average heard in such contests. The judges congratulated both teams, and decided in favour of Loyal Albion by a small margin.

The social activities of Loyal Princess Mary Lodge reached a peak on Tuesday evening, the occasion feeing official visits from sister lordges, well over 100 visitors being in attendance. Control of proceedings was in the capable hands of N.G. Sister J. Duncan, who welcomed visitors comprising the Prov. G.M., Prov. D.G.M., and 1.P.P.G.M., representing the District Executive, and representatives of Loyal Hand and Heart, Dunedin, Albion, Prince of Wales, Outram, Valley, and Centenary Lodges. One candidate was initiated in the efficient manner peculiar to this lodge. Business concluded, acceptable items were contributed by Miss Marion Gray (tap dance). Miss Koa Mercer, Sister Rena Eoache, and Mr Sutherland (songs), Sister ’ Edith Lunam, and P.P.G.M. Bro. H. Russell (recitations). The programme was thoroughly enjoyed, as were also light refreshments. The gathering concluded with an hour’s dancing.
