OBITUARY

MR J. M. S. BACARTNUR One of the best known and most popular figures in local stock and station agency circles, Mr John M Call Smith Macarthur, died on Saturday. Mr Macarthur was born in Dunedin, and educated at the Otago Boys’ High School. 'On leaving school he joined the staff of Messrs Dalgety and Co., and was stationed in turn at Dunedin, Oamaru, and Invercargill. Just oyer 20 years ago he severed his connection with this firm and joined the auctioneering staff of Messrs Donald Reid and Co. 'Por many years he was the company’s chief auctioneer in selling stock, at wool sales, and at country clearing sales. During his long association with the stock and station agency business Mr Macarthur made many firm friends, for lie was a man of sound judgment and high integrity, and an efficient auctioneer. A little over a year ago he retired from business, and the news of his death will come as a severe shock to the large number of people with whom he had come in contact.
