HAMPDEN SCHOOL COMMITTEE
MONTHLY MEETING I There was a good attendance at tlig monthly meeting of the Hampden School Committee. The chairman (M*> J. G. Dungey) presided. Accounts totalling £2 10s 3d were passed for pay* ment. ' The Education Board forwarded in* . formation regarding the dates of school terras for 1938. The Educational Insti* tute wrote in regard to prize-giving systems, and suggested that in lieu of prizes the money should be spent on establishing school libraries. —It way decided to adhere to the present system of giving a prize to each child irrespective of merit. •> The headmaster reported that tug average, attendance was :91 per cent* of the roll. Twenty-three pupils at* tended the school- sports in Oamaru. It was decided to hold the break* up ceremony on Friday, December 17* It was also agreed to extend the closing date for tenders for erecting a’ fence round -the school., tennis court* until the end of the week. The secretary reported that no ap* plications had yet_ been received foij the position of janitor.
