NEW ZEALAND CRICKETERS

122 FOR FOUR WICKETS MATCH AGAINST VICTORIA CAIN STOPS PLAY Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright MELBOURNE, November 12. Considerable interest was taken in the match to-day, New Zealand v. Victoria, as it represented an opportunity to try for the first time in first-class company Victoria’s candidates for places in Australia’s test team to tour England next year. The match was opened in brilliant sunshine, but oppressive conditions in the afternoon were accompanied by rain, which stopped play at 3.30 for the day. Page did not play owing to a recurrence of an injury after the Adelaide match, and Lowry captained the team. New Zealand won the toss, and batted. The opening batsmen, Vivian and -Kerr, soon settled down, being little troubled by the bowling of M'Cormick and Ebelmg. Vivian played crisp cricket, placing his shots where no fieldsmen could reach them in time. His 30 was scored in 45 minutes. He was unlucky to bo caught from a rising ball trap set by M'Cormick. Moloney went just before lunch, legbefore to Fleetwood-Smith, who was bowling a long series of rising balls. Kerr batted with extreme caution. New Zealand’s century went up in 2h 3omin. Ten minutes later a fast onb. from Ebeling scattered Kerr’s wickets. With three wickets down for 112, Weir joined Wallace, who was then playing a scientific game. His score was 26, and he was giving no chances. Weir did not last one over, his wicket being Ebeling’s second. Four wickets had then fallen for 122. Donnelly was the next batsman, but almost immediately rain stopped play. Lowry, Hadlee, Roberts, Parsloe, and Lamason have still to bat. Details:— NEW ZEALAND. First Innings.
