Care of the Hands. If the hands become stiff and shiny on laundry days, wash them well in ■plain warm water, dry them, and pour vinegar into the palm of one hand, quickly rubbing it all over both hands. This extracts the hidden soap from the pores. After rubbing, wipe dry. Restoring Black Suede. ' To; restore black suede shoes which have begun to take bn a brownish' tinge, 1 apply a mixture of equal parts of olive oil and black ink with a clean rag. Do not apply too thickly, and allow to dry slowly. No Grease for Cake Tins. Cake tins for large cakes never need •greasing if they are put in the oven, and made really hot. Then put the mixture in tin and return to oven, 1 When turned out they have a smooth appearance and never stick or burn: Sour Milk for Polishing, Enough turpentine added to sour milk to make a creamy mixture gives a splendid and economical floor polish. Some Good Ideas. Grease the lid of the saucepan around the rim, and the liquid which is cooking in it will not boil over. Before unwrapping butter, hold under the cold water tap for a few seconds; the paper will then come away cleanly without anv butter adhering to it. [Handkerchiefs will have just the right stiffness if they are laid out flat on a starched tablecloth after they are washed. The cloth is folded over, and passed through the wringer. When women carpenters are ready to commence work they should fill a large bar of' washing soap with nails of the required size. They will then penetrate the hardest wood without bending, and they will not split the timber. When ‘cooking mushrooms, dip a clean shilling into tho saucepan. If the shilling turns black, the mushrooms are not fit to eat. A square of white table baize makes a good waterproof sheet, and is much cheaper than rubhei'ised sheeting. A card table, with two legs left folded, makes an excellent table for use over the bed in a sick room. Grated carrot is a good substitute for eggs when making a steamed pudding. ■
