HIMALAYAN MYTH EXPOSED
Scientists are debunking the Mystery, Man of the Himalayas—the “ Aboimnable Snowman,” says the 1 Daily ExPI Huge, white, and furry, he has bee* a local legend in Tibet for centuries. When short of food, he eats men, and is believed to be some strange and formidable type of human being. _ But now scientists working in Lon* don’s ipolite warmth, are treating him and his legend as a cross between tM Loch Ness Monster and the Indian rop# trick. . ; . Captain Guy Bellman, of the Bntisli Natural History Museum, said that, though several British Everest climbers had seen strange footprints in the snow, no one had actually seen th« Snowman. ’ “Even the native porters and who are terrified if they see footprint* alleged to belong to the super-monster, can only say that friends of theirs have seen the Snowman.” _ ~ . Captain Dollman’s contention is that the prints are those of the langur monkey. It is known that there are lan. gur monkeys in Northern India and Tibet, and that they live at very high altitudes. _ . The langurs—scientists call them Rhinopithecus roxellanac —are about 4Jft tall on their hind legs, and them, imprints are believed to be those mistaken for Snowmen. Mr Erio Shipton, the Everest climber, came back from the Himalayas after seeing the footprints and being completely unable to account for them.
