WELCOME HOME

RETURN OF MR C. E. BERG On Wednesday evening, in the Somerset Lounge, a social and dance was held by the employees of Charles Begg and Co. Ltd., who gave a welcome home to Mr C. E. Begg, general manager, who has returned from a trip abroad. Mr J, Dixon (manager), in extending greetings from the members of the staff to Mr Begg, said everyone was pleased to see him back in good health, and they trusted that the trip would be a great benefit to himself and the firm. Mr Wray Wilson (manager of the Invercargill branch) also extended a welcome to Mr Begg. Mr Begg thanked the members of the staff for their loyalty during his absence. An interesting talk of his travels was given by Mr Begg, who said that New Zealand was held in very high esteem throughout the world. Mr J. Hastie, on behalf of the staff, thanked Mr Begg for his talk. A -first-class musical programme had been arranged by Mr J. Dixon, and was very much enjoyed. The following took part:—Miss Muriel Caddie (piano accordion), Miss B. Gallien (songs). Miss Mavis M'Cormack (violin solos), Mr Ledley MacDonald (songs), Mr A. Bolton (cornet solos'). The surprise of the evening was the performance of Begg’s Male Choir Glee Party under Mr 'j. Dixon. Their items were much appreciated. A word of praise is due to fbe small orchestra, under Mr W. Ford, which provided the music for the dances.
