THE AIRPORT PROBLEM
PRIME MINISTER'S EXPLANATION WAITING FOR EXPERTS' REPORT [Special to hie ' Star.’] WELLINGTON, December 10. That the action of the Government in appointing a highly competent committee of experts to advise it regarding the suitability of Wellington Harbour for flying boats has a wider object was made clear by the Prime Minister to-day. Mr Savage was reminded that other centres —notably New Plymouth and Southland with its plan for the utilisation of the sheltered Paterson In’et, 920 miles from Melbourne, were also putting forward claims for consideration. , , “ We have, to do more than look at Wellington,” commented the Prime Minister. “Itis a question of providing a report on what the experts consider is the best course for the Government to follow. Aviation is in its infancy, and one has only to go through the great manufacturing establishments turning out aircraft to see that we are rapidly getting into the air in the matter of transport.”
