TELEGRAPHIC TRAFFIC

DUST ON INSULATION. CAUSES DELAY [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, November 9. There was an unusual reason for an interruption in the telegraphic com* inunication with the South Island stations south of Kaikoura to-day. Owing to tho prolonged dry spell the coating of the insulators had become covered with dust, and the effect of the drizzling rain on this was a loss of insulation sufficient to prevent the use of the multiplex equipment. The position adjusted, itself when sufficient rain had fallen to wash tho insulators. The trouble commenced shortly after 10 o’clock this morning, and it was not until 1 in the afternoon that the department was ' able to employ the equipment in the ordinary way. By 3 o’clock all the arrears of traffic had been cleared and the position was then normal.
