EARL BALDWIN
GOLDEN CASKET PRESENTED TRIBUTE TO MR RAMSAY MACDONALD Press Association— By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, November 5. 1 (Received November 6, at 10 a.m.) The Corporation of London presented a golden casket to Earl Baldwin, who paid a special tribute to Mr Ramsay MacDonald, declaring that -he had never had the credit due to him for his services to the country in 1931 and thereafter. ■ Amplifying his tribute to Mr MacDonald, Earl Baldwin said : “We worked in harmony, and nothing ever disturbed that harmony. A better colleague I could not have desired. J. saw him work through periods of great physical disability. He worked himself out even as I had done by the end of last May. We should express our hope that his long voyage to South America may restore him to health.” Referring to Mr Chamberlain, Viscount Baldwin said he had been fortunate in having a man who had every gift of character and intellect to whom to surrender his office, and he was sure that he would maintain in its fullest integrity all the traditions of greatness of that high office. Of his own services, all Earl Baldwin said was that half a century would have to elapse before it was decided whether they were good or bad.
