CAVERSHAM SCHOOL

CONCERT BY PUPILS For years the Caversham School has been- proud of its choir, the members of which have received valuable early training in appreciation of the musical art. The choir has maintained quite a high standard since its inception, despite yearly changes in its personnel, and the large audience which attended the school concert in His Majesty’s Theatre on Saturday night were well satisfied with the performance of the choir, as well as with several other items which - lent variety to the programme. Under the direction of Air R. Johnston. the choir gave a pleasing list of contrasting numbers, the following being its offerings :—‘ Nightfall,’ ‘ Drake’s Drum,’ ‘ E Pari Ra,’ ‘ E Hine Haere Alai,’ ' Humoreske,’ ‘ Mighty Lak’ ■ a Rose,’ ‘ The Vagabond,’ ‘ I’ll Sing Thee Songs of Araby,’ ‘Hark! Hark! the Lark! ’ and ‘ Farewell.’ > Pupils from the various standards also appeared in a number of specially prepared concert items. The Standard lI.A children were responsible for the song scena, * H.AI.S. Bullfrog,’ those in Standard lII.A presenting a specially written music sketch, ‘ The Village Blacksmith,’ and those in Forms 1. and 11. displaying nimbleness in the ballet ‘ Nautical Nymphs,’ the training of which was the work of Air L. Hubbard. Mr Johnson also presented his Form 11. Harmonica Hill Billies, a group of accomplished mouth organ players. An operetta, ‘ Cinderella,’ telling the everentrancing story of the ragged little girl’s sudden pre-eminence at the prince’s ball, was played by the Standards I. and If.A pupils, and the Standard IV. scholars appeared in a play, ‘ The Swineherd.’ Taught by Miss S. IS. Foster, the senior girls appeared in a spectacular flower danee t Tho accompanist throughout was Miss F. Sumner.
