(Received October 8, at 11.5 a.m.)' The Labour conference defeated #1 resolution instructing Labour parliamentarians to vote, against the Government Arms Estimates by 2,167,000 vote# to 22,800. The conference overwhelmingly approved the policy of adequate defence. The executive undertook to prepare a scheme for democratisation of the armed farces. IMPOSSIBLE TO IGNORE FACTS, LONDON, October 7, (Received October 8, at 11.5 a.m.)’ The Labour Conference discussed th# rearmament recommendations adopted by the Trades Union Congress. Mr Clynea declared it was impossible to ignore facts and behave as though Fascist States were accumulating arm# with no intention of using them. If . Labour failed to play its part in defence, the consequences would be_ appalling. Pacifism might be glorious, but it would be deadly,to their political future. Labour would not win a single seat if it were thought that if intended to leave Britain defenceless. Mr Lansbury declared that if British Labour did not take a stand against armaments the future of the world would be hopeless.
