(Received Octoher-8, at 8 a.m.) ’Telegraphic and telephonic communications with Rome and the rest of Europe were out of action all night duo to violent gales and floods throughout Italy, accompanied by landslides, which broke underground cables. There were also widespread floods in France, where water swept over the cemetery at Salau and washed out coffins and skeletons, which were carried for 16 miles. Twenty-three houses at St. Girons were undermined by water, and collapsed. RAILWAY LINE DESTROYED ROME, October 7. (Received October 8, at 8 a.m.) Five members of one family were killed by a landslide, which crushed a farmhouse in the district of Pistoia. The railway line from Rome to Milan was destroyed between Pistoia and Poretta.
