a iivii -ww^ APPLES IN OVER SUPPLY DOM CONSIGNMENTS OF FRESH VEGETABLES Reilly’s report that the local market is well supplied with all Hues of fruit and produce, while a' satisfactory demand has keen experienced during the week. Apples are still in .over-supply, with low prices prevailing. Consignments of inferior, grade are accumulating and •re difficult to clear. There is still a fair inquiry for cut flowers. Oranges are selling well, a further shipment, of South .Australian Valencias being due by the Waitaki next Thursday. A small shipment of Jamacian grapefruit arrived during the week and met with a good inquiry. Transhipments ex the Monterey of Californian grapes, grapefruit, and lemons are expected to-morrow, while other transhipments to arrive consist of Samoan bananas, Raratongan bananas and tomatoes. There has been an excellent demand for ripe bananas. Fresh vegetables have a good inquiry; good supplies of most lines arriving, bqt cauliflowers are still short of requirements. Increased supplies of Christchurch' tomatoes are being received, as well as asparagus, new potatoes, and green peas. Rhubarb is in fair supply with a good inquiry. Heavy consignments of repicked table potatoes are coming to hand, and for these there is a fair demand. Main crop varieties of seed potatoes are selling well. There is a good demand for carrots, parsnips, and swedes, values for which have firmed. Only small parcels of whitebait have been coming to hand, and values remain firm. Values for guaranteed eggs have been reduced one penny during the week, the price now being Is 2d. There was a fair yarding of poultry for Wednesday’s sale, prices being very firm for all lines, and especially ducks.
