Successfully Opened Compensate Wins IVTLean Stakes Mosgiel Handicap to Queen Dorothy Bright sunshine, with a nice breeze, made the climatic conditions for the day of the I)unedin Jockey Clubs Spring Meeting very pleasant, and the good crowd present was treated to an mtwesting afternoon’s racing. Visitors were very prominent the attendee, an d Canterbury, North and Central Otago, and Southland were well represented. . The course was in excellent order, and much faster than anticipated It had made a wonderful recovery during the past few daj s, and provided excellent going for season of the year. As usual, early spring form was difficult to follow, and backers of first favourites had to wait until the last race to get a return on the straight-out machine.
Mr Gieseler’s starting was good, and the meeting was excellently managed, punctuality being closely observed. The totaihsator handled £13,164 10s (win £6,341 10s, place, £6,823), as compared with £10,421 10s last year, an increase of £2,743.
