ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS
INQUEST WITHOUT BODY. Authority has been received from the Attorney-General (the Hon. H. G. R. Mason) by the coroner (Mr F. K. Hunt) to hold an inquest into the deatn of Leonard Orr Smellie, an air force photographer, who was drowned near the Hob so nv die air base on July 31. Authority was obtained from the Minister, as the body of Smellie was not recovered, although an extensive search was conducted. The tragedy occurred when a sudden gust of wind capsized a 7ft boat in which Smellie and a companion were sailing. FRACTURES FROM FALLS. Mary Clark, residing at 63 Russell street, was admitted to the Hospital at 11.30 this morning suffering from a fractured wrist caused by a fall in her home. Edith Banks, a stewardess belonging to the s.s. Taiuui, fractured her left ankle when she slipped on board the ship. She was admitted to the Hospital at noon.
