JUMP TO AVOID ENGINE. Jumping from a motor jigger _ when he was suddenly confronted with a train rounding a bend, M. Stratton, a signal inspector of railways, stationed at Aramoho, suffered head injuries and concussion, and was still unconscious in the Stratford Hospital last night. The accident occurred south of Stratford. Although Stratton jumped clear, the locomotive struck and damaged the jigger. CYCLIST FATALLY INJURED. Injuries which proved fatal were suffered by James Michael, aged 51, a widower, of Newmarket,. Auckland, when his cycle was involved in a collision with a motor car in Newmarket. Michael, who was a quarryman, was admitted to hospital with head injuries, and died early in the evening.. Riding his cycle, Michael was on his way home when the collision occurred, and he was thrown heavily against the car and then to the ground.. .... DUNEDIN MAN’S DEATH AT GORE. An inquest was held at. Gore yesterday to inquire into the circumstances of the death of Charles Edwin Gilbert, an examining officer of the Customs Department at Dunedin, aged _44 years, who died in the Gore Hospital yesterday morning. Deceased, who left on Monday for a holiday at Te An an, felt unwell at Lumsden,and decided to return. While boarding the bus at Lumsden _.he collapsed on the street, striking his head on the kerhing, and was at .once conveyed .to the Gore Hospital. Evidence was given by Edwin Norman Stewart," traveller, that the deceased did not feel well early on Monday morning. Dr Waters, of Gore, stated that the post mortem revealed an extensive haemorrhage of the brain, which had taken place before and after the fall. The fall accelerated a further haemorrhage. A verdict was returned that deceased died as _ the result of haemorrhage of the brain. INJURED IN CAR ACCIDENT. A collision between two motor cars at the intersection of Wallace and Pacific streets yesterday afternoon resulted in Samuel Smith, a single man, fracturing his right forearm. Smith, who resides at 81 Newington Avenue, Maori Hill, was admitted to the Hospital shortly after 6 o’clock.
