0.8. A. EXECUTIVE A proposal that another tournament should be held about the end of October and that a number of special matches should be ararnged was put for ward by the A latch Committee at last night’s meeting of the _ executive of the Otago Boxing Association, which was attended by Messrs S. Brown (in the chair), H. W. Justice. J. ihnartin, A. M. Grainger, W. G. Glengarry, If. M. Paape, W. D. Allan, AV. Mowat, T. Long, 0. E. Brown, lb. S. Paris, Don Paterson, W. D. Wilson, and E. C. Isaacs (hon. secretary). The Southland 'Association advised that it was holding a tournament on October 18, at which a number of special bouts would be staged, and it asked the association to ascertain if C. Hayes (heavy-weight), J. Ramsay (light-weight), and L. Greaney (feather-weight) would be available for matches.—lt was reported that _ the three Otago boxers would be available to compete at Invercargill. Mr A. Baker wrote stating that a young men’s club had been formed in Caversham under the auspices of Too H, and , he appealed for assistance in the way of old boxing gloves, ropes, e tc.—Members expressed sympathy with the club’s request, and'appreciation of the work it was doing, and it was decided to advise Mr Baker that when the allocation, of old gloves was made shortly an effort would he' made to assist the club. The Secretary of the New Zealand Council advised that the council in future intended to send the secretary to visit the association about to control the championships, the visit to take place early in the year. It was decided to donate £1 Is to the St. John Ambulance Association appeal. The secretary of the Southland Association thanked the association for arranging the entry of 11. Baker for the New Zealand championships. This was appreciated very much by all concerned in Southland. Advice was received from Jack Jarvis, the New Zealand professional light-weight champion, that owing to an injured ankle he would he unable to accept a contest in Dunedin for two months, _ A letter was received from S. W. Jenkin, of Oamaru, applying for a bout in the near future, and stating that he would he willing to meet any New Zealand welter-weight.—The letter was referred to the Match Committee, which reported that it had been negotiating for a professional contest, hut without success, and efforts were now being made to arrange a tournament about the end of October, at which a number of New, Zealand’s foremost amateurs would ho brought together.
