RESERVES DEPARTMENT'S PROJECT ADDITIONS TO ROBIH HOOD AREA Forty men, employed on a 40-hour week, are at present doing exceptionally good work in the levelling of the old quarry adjoining the Robin Hood ground. Having in mind the success that attended the levelling work on the upper part of the Robin Hood reserve, the superintendent of reserves (Mr D. Tannock) has put into operation plans that will provide adequate playing area for the Arthur Street School and a hockey ground for the high schools in the district. The men are at present engaged in filling in the old quarry with rock from one side, and the other side is to be terraced to form seating accommodation for spectators on ground which should bo well sheltered. The hockey ground will be a fullsized area, and it is anticipated that the work will take about a year to complete. It has already been in progress seven weeks, and Mr Tannock stated to-day that excellent, progress was being made, there being no doubt of the success of the scheme of engaging men for the work under a 40-hour week. Work on the Unity ground is nearly completed, and this will be,made available as a playing area for the High Street School, Mr Tapnock remarking .that practically every school in Dun-.
edin now had a good ground fairly adjacent to it.. . An essential part of the reserves department scheme in the laying out of the _ various grounds under its jurisdiction is that they should not merely be places to play on, hut should, by their pleasant surroundings, raise the tone of the people as well as ■ raising the muscles.
