It is understood that the Duke and Duchess will be invited to a formal dinner at White House. A private audience wuth President Roosevelt is likely to be governed by political considerations. Some quarters fear that an audience might be regarded as a hint that : the Administration sympathises with the Duke and Duchess against the British Government. COMPLICATIONS FEARED NEW YORK, October 5. The New York ‘ Herald-Tribune’s ’ Washington correspondent states: “ What is necessary for politeness, and no more, will apparently be the rule governing the reception of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor by the State Department and the British Embassy.” The newspaper , stresses that political and diplomatic complications are feared from the alleged pro-Nazi sympathies of the Duke and Duchess, particularly if the Duke makes any pronouncements comparing German and American public housing, which is likely to result in a controversy.
