MEETING Of COUNCIL The fortnightly meeting of ihc St. Kiida Borough Council was held hist night, there being present l!»o mayor (Mr J. J. Marlow). CTs G. Glue, W. Davidson, .1. H. Hinton, It. S. Brent, T. 1). B. Roy. N. U. Anderson, J. Cherry, W. J. Lovell, E. Longworth, ami W. Rutherford. FINANCE. Accounts amounting to £415 10s 7d were passed for payment. Receipts for the fortnight totalled £144 10s 7d, and the bank was reported as standing at £<B2 15s 7(1. CULLING PAR K EMPLOYMENT. In connection with the employment of men at Royal Crescent ami Culling Park, the District Employment Officer wrote stating that the Secretary of Labour bail advised that the sum of £1,350 had been set aside for the work. This amount should not bo exceeded without the secretary’s prior approval. The period of rotational employment bad now been extended to 13 weeks, and it would therefore he unnecessary, to replace the men originally employed at the expiration of their eight-weekly period of employment. The mayor remarked that the terms of the letter were very satisfactory. ELECTORAL BOUNDARIES. Acknowledging tho council’s letter of objection to the proposed new electoral boundaries of tho Dunedin South electorate, tho Under-Secretary, Department of Internal Affairs, wrote that the Minister had no jurisdiction in the matter. A section of tho Electoral Act, 1927, provided that where cither of the representative commissions proposed to alter an existing electorate, due notice of the proposed boundaries ■ shall bo given in tho New Zealand 1 Gazette.’ and objections in writing thereto may bo lodged with the commission proposing the alteration. A published notice in a supplementary ‘ Gazette ’ on July 28 showed the proposed boundaries of the electoral districts of tho South Island, and called for written objections to be lodged thereto up to noon on Tuesday, August 31. It was decided to scud an objection to the chairman of the South Island Representation Commission. REPORTS. In his report the foreman slated that sealed streets had been repaired, while other streets bad been patched with chips from the quarry. Other work carried out included tho grassing of streets ami the sweeping of channels. Twelve additional men commenced on the Culling Park work on July 29, making the total number employed there 30.—Adopted. Water bursts repaired totalled 14. stated the plumber’s report. A water service had been put in in Bay View road, fire plug pegs bad been renewed in various streets, the water service in Culling Park had boon altered, and inspections and minor repairs bad been carried out. Adopted. The inspector’s report stated that one disinfection was carried out since the last meeting. A general inspection of the borough bad been earned out. and all complaints bad been attended to.—Adopted. WATER ACCOUNT. The water consumption was reported at 3,425,000 gallons at n cosit ot £B,i 12s Cd, as against £lOl 18s for the previous period.
