V.A.T.C. MEETING DRESS SUIT WINS HURDLES MELBOURNE, August 8. At the Victoria Amateur Turf Club’s Meeting the principal results were: — AUSTRALIAN HANDICAP HURDLES, £1,500. 3Jm 20yds. DRESS SUIT, aged, 9.6 (Fullarton) 1 Bridge of Mar, 11 (Webster) 2 Highland Fling, 10.7 (Driscoll) ... 3 The other starters included Triteleia, Fulham, Menelik, Dakwood, King Siris, King’s Game, and Precedor. Bridge of Mar tried to lead whole way closely attended by Triteleia, Dress Suit, Fulham, and Precedor. Approaching the seven-furlong post Dress Suit took command and was not troubled to win convincingly by six lengths, with 20 lengths between second and third.' Triteleia, was fourth. The remainder, excepting Precedor, fell. Time, 6min 4|sec. MOONDAH PLATE, £SOO. 6f. VALIANT CHIEF, 9.2 (Breasley) 1 Aurie’s Star, 10.0 (Smart) ... ... 2 Regular Bachelor, 9.6 (Creighton) 3 Eleven started, including Only One. Won by half a head with a length and three-quarters between second l and third. Time, Imin 12isec. Valiant Chief was having his first run since an accident 12 months ago, when Voitre was injured. F. Peacock, rider of Fulham in the Australian Hurdle Handicap, suffered concussion. F. Jennings, rider of King Siris, suffered concussion, fractured ribs, and general abrasions. Highland) Fling broke down at the last furlong. Riddle was third in the Mornington Welter Handicap, and Whernside was unplaced. Desert Chief was unplaced in the Balaclava Stakes. Pilot was unplaced in the second division of the Crimea Trial Handicap. r ' - ■ "X ' • ' ROSE HILL MEETING SYDNEY, August 8. Stirring finishes were witnessed at the Roßeh.il 1 races, four events being won by no mo,re than a neck. Several New Zealanlers were engaged, but only Deputv Ruler, who was second in the first division of the Flying Handicap to Moonray, was placed. The others —Rebel Chief, Bronze Tulip, Birthday Boy, Stalin, Bengal Lancer, Improvement, Latharna, Golden Chance, and Viceroy —were all unplaced in their respective races. The August Handicap, £175. IJm, resulted: —Fireman, 8,8 (Finch) 1; Friar’s Switch, 8.6 (Heather) 2; Dulcedo, 8.12 (Reynolds), 3. Seven started, including Improyement. Won by half a neck, with half a neck between second and third. Time, 2min 6sec. Much interest was evinced in the French horse Genetout, who was having his first outing in the second division of the Flying Handicap, which was won by a head by Silver Rose from Tuckair and El Senorita. Genetont was a little at sea, but was galloping strongly near the finish and was fifth.
