HEW ZEALAND COMPETING SYDNEY, August 6. The men’s hockey championship of Australia was begun at the Sports Ground to-day, in ideal weather. Ten teams, representing all the States and New Zealand, are taking part. The visiting teams, including the New Zealanders, were given a civic reception this morning. New Zealand’s first game will he against New South Wales to-morrow. To-day’s matches resulted: — Tasmania drew with Western Australia, 2-2. ' . Queensland defeated Victoria, 4-1. New South Wales defeated South Australia, 4-0.
