OTAGO BOXING CHAMPIONSHIPS

SPECTACULAR BOXING PROMISED Spectacular boxing is promised when the Otago amateur championships axe decided at His Majesty’s Theatre on Monday night, and with representative entries from Dunedin, South Otago, North Otago, Invercargill, and Central Otago there should bo some lively contests among the 14 or 15 championship contests to be staged, while one or two special bouts have been arranged, including a paperweight Contest between J. Cook and F. Delargey (Christian Brothers’ High School). The contestants include Norman Jenkin, winner of the scientific award at the last New Zealand amateur championships, who has twice won the Otago light-weight title, and he will face opposition from two experienced boxers in Phil Huston and Jim Ramsay, both of whom have represented Otago in the past. In the heavier classes the boxers talcing part include A. D. Wheeler, T. Denny (promising Invercargill welter-weight), A. Sutherland (Bannockburn, who has entered in both middle and light-heavy-weight classes), Cyril Hayes (present Otago heavy-weight champion), and J. Arnott (who has many good performances to his credit). Yery good entries have been received in the fly-weight class, and in the bantam-weight division M. Parr , will meet Sam Sutherland. L. Greaney, J. M'Quarrie, M. Hunter (Oamarn), and B. Reeves will contest the feather-weight class. Full particulars arc advertised.
